We are looking for a pastor who is devoted to the expository preaching and teaching of the Word of God that can be understood and applied by all ages, a leader who casts a clear vision for the church that people want to follow, and a man who is authentic and transparent about his walk with the Lord.

Machias, Maine is small town of 2,000+ people located near coast of Maine on the
Atlantic Ocean.
Machias Valley Baptist Church is located in Machias, Maine, the county seat of Washington County.
Our town is situated in eastern Maine near the Atlantic Ocean. To us locals, it is the land known as "Down East."
It is approximately 72 miles from Bar Harbor, 85 miles from Bangor and 216 miles from Portland.

Machias hosts the government center for the county, a regional hospital Down East Community Hospital, as well as a University of Maine campus, specializing in the studies of marine ecosystem biology, teaching and nursing. The historical industries which built this area, timber, wild blueberries and commercial lobster fishing, all still play a major role in the economics of the greater region.
But our area is also seeing an increase in eco-tourism, with visitors from across the nation and even from around the world coming here to experience our Bold Coast, our state’s public reserved lands and parks, and other gems which we call the rural and “unspoilt” part of Maine. Our annual Blueberry Festival is the event of the year, held in August and is the peak of our tourist season. The seemingly endless opportunities for camping, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, biking, fishing and hunting are all delightful benefits of this area that we call home.

OUR
Church
Our church is comprised of a mixture of all ages, with average Sunday attendance of 100.
In the early 1950’s, two families moved to the area and saw a need for a gospel preaching church in Machias. They started meeting in homes, grew in number, and prayed for a pastor and a building.
In 1956, as an answer to prayer, they called George Henderson, an ambitious young man straight out of Bible college to be their pastor. The growing body of believers rescued the abandoned Universalist Church building in 1959.
The ministry continued to grow and reach out to the people in the Machias Bay area. With a few additions and many renovations, the building continues to be the meeting place for Machias Valley Baptist Church. Pastor Henderson faithfully served as pastor for 50 years. Since his retirement in 2008, we have had three pastors serve and walk with us as God continues His work here. We've been blessed to have Zach Vaughn serve as our senior pastor for the past four and a half years during which we experienced growth through his teaching, in our leadership, and outreach to the community. He will be moving on to a new ministry opportunity in July back in his home state of New Mexico.
From the very inception of the church, its purpose has been to teach the Word of God, share the gospel, and lead people to salvation and growth in the Lord. As church members, we are dedicated to this mission and look forward with anticipation and much prayer for our future pastor, knowing that God will do “immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us. To him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21)

Position Summary
The pastor will be a man who will serve on the elder team with a heart for God’s word and a passion to show scriptural relevance to life issues as faced by all generations. This full time position requires leadership for the equipping and engaging of the body for service.

is in full agreement with the Constitution and Bylaws of the Machias Valley Baptist Church.

is a mature Christian who continues to grow in his relationship with Christ.

Accountability
To God, the elder team and the members of the Machias Valley Baptist Church
Expectations

To conduct the regular spiritual services of Machias Valley Baptist Church and to exercise a spiritual watch care as an undershepherd.

To preach on the Lord’s Day and help administer baptisms and communion.

To carry out the spiritual responsibilities of an elder of Machias Valley Baptist Church as detailed in 1 Peter 5:1-4 and Acts 20:28-31.

To provide leadership for continual spiritual growth.
