OUR MISSION, VISION, & VALUES

Mission, Vision, Values

Our mission is to participate in the Great Commission given by Jesus found in Matthew 28:18-20 and Acts 1:8.

Our vision is to be a body of equipped and employed saints referenced in Ephesians 4:13-16 and to be ever increasing in the fruit of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:22, 23.

Our values are found in Acts 2:42-47 to be a church devoted to the teaching of God’s Word, the fellowship of believers, the worshiping of Christ, the ministry of prayer, and the serving of one another.

OUR HISTORY

In 1956, a young man by the name of Pastor George Henderson left the small village of Allagash, Maine, and came to the town of Machias with great determination to fulfill the desire which God had placed on his heart since he was a teen. This purpose led to the discovery of the Universalist Church, which became Machias Valley Baptist Church in September 1962.

After many renovations and additions, in 1981, Machias Valley Christian School was opened, which used the church facilities to prepare children for their futures with God’s guidance. The Hemmingway Annex building was purchased for a youth center and office space as the ministry of Machias Valley Baptist Church continued to grow and reach out to people in the Machias Bay area.  The Hemmingway Annex now serves as the home of Machias Valley Christian School.

Pastor George Henderson and his wife, Carolyn Sprague Henderson, faithfully served the Lord in the ministry of Machias Valley Baptist Church. Pastor Henderson went home to be with his Lord on August 23, 2008, after serving as MVBC's only pastor for 50 years.
